In my role as an FCP, I work alongside GPs as the first point of contact for patients presenting with MSK conditions. I assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of joint, muscle, and soft tissue problems directly within the GP surgery. This allows patients to access specialist assessment and advice quickly, often without the need for onward referral.
By managing MSK conditions at the first point of contact, I help reduce the demand on GP appointments, streamline patient care, and ensure individuals receive timely, evidence-based management or referral to appropriate services when needed. My advanced training also allows me to prescribe medication, request imaging, and provide injection therapy where appropriate, supporting holistic and efficient patient management within primary care.
The FCP service is not a physiotherapy treatment service. Instead, it focuses on early assessment, diagnosis, and management planning to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. If physiotherapy treatment is required, patients can self-refer to the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) Physiotherapy Service using the online self-referral form: https://www.swft.nhs.uk/our-services/physiotherapy-adult

GP net earnings
As part of the GP Contract in England, we have to publish the average earnings of all partners and salaried doctors working at the practice in the previous financial year.
These earnings relate to income from NHS England, CCGs and local authorities and public health services for the provision of GP services that relate to the contract or have been nationally determined. The earnings reported are before tax, national insurance and employee pension contributions and for partners the figures will be net of expenses. 2017/18
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. The average pay for GPs working in Spa Medical Centre in the last financial year (2017-18) was £80,521 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 2 full-time GPs who worked in the practice for 12 months.
