Confidentiality

Data Protection

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to access the information Spa Medical Centre holds about you.

You have the right to view your medical records, and if you so wish, obtain a photocopy of them. Only in exceptional circumstances can access to the information be withheld

Please apply to have access to your full medical records online, very simple just complet a form that reception can send over to you and then they will verify your identity, once this is complete an email will be sent to you to set yourself up with access to your medical records.

As a result of data protection laws and our professional obligations to our patients, we are unable to discuss any aspect of a third party’s medical care with you unless you are a Parent/Guardian

THEREFORE

We cannot give information such as blood test results to a patient’s spouse unless the patient is present and gives consent. The same applies to the parents or any other relatives or a legally competent adult.

We cannot give information about a patient’s whereabouts – such as if  they have been seen in surgery on a particular day or whether they are currently being seen by a Doctor/Nurse.

We understand that this may occasionally cause practical difficulties such as when a friend/relative comes to pick up a patient or when it is inconvenient for a patient to receive a result themselves but we are constrained by a strict code of confidentially. Please discuss this with the Practice Manager if you have any concerns.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION

Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act was passed in November 2000. It recognises that members of the public have a right to know how public services are organised, how decisions are made and how much they cost. We are required to produce a publication scheme. The scheme is a guide to the classes of information the practice intends to routinely make available. Please speak with the Reception team should you wish to obtain a copy.
